The Ministry of Finance has Unveiled a New Strategic Plan
The Ministry of Finance has unveiled a new strategic plan to reform the public financial management system. The Ministry of Finance has announced that it will work to increase access to an integrated financial management information system (IFMIS) program that supports the government’s budget, finance and accounting operations.
Meanwhile, IFMIS Project Manager at the Ministry of Finance, Nega Mengistu, said the plan is related to various financial management reforms and will create stability for Ethiopia’s macro-economy.
He said the government has made a significant contribution to improving public service delivery, budgeting, revenue collection and cost management.
He said the ministry is working to reach an additional 760 stations in different parts of the country to enhance the effectiveness of the program, use improved infrastructure and further enhance institutional practices.
He said the IFMIS program has been expanded to 156 stations during the first strategic period (2016-2020). The program has provided training to 14,773 end users and has built enough internal capacity to support the implementation of the program.
He also said that 84% of the federal government’s budget is currently managed by IFMIS.
IFMIS also handled more than 25 million transactions during the first strategic period.
He said the strategic plan will further strengthen the integration of IFMIS with other information systems such as electronic procurement and revenue, credit management, financial data analysis, National Bank, Commercial Bank and Revenue.
